Colombian coffee production in marketing year 2017/18 is expected to decline by 14.2 million bags (1 bag equals roughly 60 kilograms) green bean equivalent (GBE), according to the USDA Colombia Coffee Annual report. The report states that the main coffee production areas were affected by excessive rain and cloudiness, thus inhibiting growth.

Production is forecast to increase in marketing year 2018/19, due to projected better weather conditions and plants reaching their productive peak, according to the report. A plan to increase and renovate the number of hectares for coffee production is in place to help reach the goal of 18 million bags GBE in the near future.
