A book review is about the book reviewed and its author. And because it is an interpretation it is also about the reviewer who is bringing to the review or interpretation his subjectiveness and understanding of the book. With these comments I herewith write this review of the book "Apocalypses: Prophecies, Cults and Millennial Beliefs through the Ages" by Eugen Weber.

In Apocalypses: Prophecies, Cults and Millennial Beliefs through the Ages, the noted historian Eugen Weber trace the history of the revelation / apocalypses of the mysteries of God amongst the human race through prophets. The basis for apocalypses / revelation of the mysteries of God is the Bible which is written by the prophets of God.

Weber shows all various angles of apocalypses throughout history, and in showing all angles of apocalypses he reveals false prophets and antichrists, and these false prophets through their false revelation of the mysteries of God they create cults. The well know of these cults are churches that are established by people in the name of God to deceive people who have a desire for spiritual walk with God. How these false prophets and false teachers operate is that they make an appearance of godliness while inwardly as Jesus Christ put it: "they are ravening false". Weber describes how churches supposed be places of worshiping the one and true God are antichrists. And many people are worshiping Satan in these churches thinking that they are worshiping God.

Weber is accurate. In these times the only way that you can save yourself from being deceived is to get far away from churches and walk with God alone as an individual. "Churches condemn us all". "Christians should live by faith, and faith comes from the gospels and the grace of God, not from priests and pastors."
The way a cult operates is that it is first started by the people who are close with a truly anointed prophet of God and then by and by these people backslide in their hearts unnoticed by the masses. And because their backsliding is in the heart and therefore hidden and unnoticed, people just think they are still following the prophet of God when they follow these pastors.

So the beginning of cultism is by pastors and close associates of a prophet of God, and these pastors starts churches in the name of the word of God but in actual fact these churches belong to them – people coming to these churches are condemned by the unnoticed false teachings which are presented in such a way that you may not notice their corruption. It is just exactly what Jesus Christ described them that they are "wolves in sheep clothing" and the followers of these pastors think that they follow the prophet of God while they are completely fooled. What deception. And so the advice from the Bible in the Book of Revelation is "… come out amongst them my people and be you separate!" Be united with God not a pastor.

Christianity is about "rejection of worldly hierarchies, oaths of allegiance [to pastors], and sovereignties of clergy". The highest authority is not a pastor but the word of the prophet of God. Pastors recast the word of the prophet of God into something which seems to look like the word of God while it is not. Apocalypses: prophecies, cults, and Millennial Beliefs through the Ages in essence offers a description and explanation of cultism as a deception – as a church supposed to be a place where God rules but now Satan rules and people are blindly worshipping Satan thinking that they are worshiping God. "Satan, bound only to rise again after a thousand years, will be finally disposed of in the lake of fire, along with death and hell".
