The biggest problem facing computer users today is the threat of hackers, and would be hackers trying to access our websites. Nobody is immune to these pests. In fact the higher the profile, the more somebody will try to hack your site. Hackers have even tried to hack the U.S. Government websites before now.

The Spanish Governments Official website for the EU presidency was said to be victim of a high profile hacking incident. Hackers managed to access the site and place a picture of Mr. Bean on the site for everybody to see. So can we prevent hackers from getting onto our sites?

It is rumored that Internet Explorer is quite vulnerable to hackers for some reason. If you are using Internet Explorer it could be shrewd to change over to other browsers, such as Google Chrome or even Mozilla Firefox.

Passwords are vitally important to website security. If you do use passwords do not make it easy for hackers to crack it by using something that relates back to you, like a name or particular date in your life. Always make up random passwords with a mixture of numbers, symbols, lower, and upper case letters. Change your password about once a week for extra security.

Open sources such as Word Press or Movable type on your websites can be another security issue. These open sources sometimes have potholes in their code that hackers can exploit to gain access to websites.

Websites should be encrypted with SSL, to stop any data that is sent back and forth from being picked up by hackers.

Firewalls should be kept on at all times. Always have up to date Anti Virus software, and always scan your computer regularly.

Letting other people use your computer is also a security risk. It is possible that hackers are sometimes people we already know.
