Gavina Gourmet Coffee started over one hundred years ago by Jose Maria and Ramon Gavina. The two, seeking a better life, left their homeland In Basque and traveled to the coffee-bearing mountains of Southern Cuba. Once they arrived there, they started a plantation and named it Hacienda Buenos Aires. This is where they began their passion for coffee-making, and built a reputation in the community as the best gourmet coffee purveyors.
Occasionally Don Francisco was born and grew up working the fields on Hacienda Buenos Aires. He learned how to pick and dry the beans, and slowly he learned how to judge the finest quality beans for the Gavina label. Today the company is run by the four children of Don Francisco: Jose, Leonor, Pedro and Paco.
What Gavina started it was a dream of Jose Maria and Ramon Gavina. That dream became a dream come true for the Francisco family. Today they state they deliver the finest and freshest coffee at very reasonable prices. These days it is rare to come across a family-owned coffee plantation that has the values of producing the very best coffee available.
Gavina Gourmet Coffee offers whole bean and ground coffee. They offer Single Origin Specialty Coffees, Special Roast & Blends, Dark Roasts, 100% Organic Coffees, Flavored Coffees, Decaf and even Flavored Decaf. They really offer something for everyone's budget and taste! From a light roast with great flavor, to a dark roast with a lot of body, Gavina looks to cater all taste buds and palates.
In five-pound bags they offer many different varieties of Single Origin coffees such as: Brazil Santos, Celebes Kalossi and Columbia Excelso. Another popular offering of Gavina is Colombia Supremo which is a mellow-toned coffee. It is excellently flavored and has a nice level of acidity. Gavina states it is the finest of Colombian coffees. A very delicious coffee that I would love to try is the Zimbabwe. This is supposed to be some of the finest coffee in the world!
Gavina also offers espresso, teas, specialty drink mixes, espresso machines, equipment, accessories and even condiments for those delicious beans. They have been raved about in the coffee world and have been in business for over a hundred years! Now that is saying a lot in these days and times, especially with the economy not doing so well. I'm looking forward to trying a cup of Gavina coffee one of these days!
