I love that whenever I eat an apple, I get this feeling of being energized that perks me up almost immediately. I’m sure many of you have felt the same way. It is like getting a boost if you are feeling tired or down and weary. This has led many to people to ask, do apples contain caffeine? Believe it or not, this is quite a common question that is asked because caffeine is also known to provide the same energy boosting effect, the same way that apples do.
Apples are quite known for other things as well. They are a fantastic source for Vitamin C, it has antioxidant effects thanks to flavonoids that may help prevent certain heart illnesses, helps prevent certain cancers, rich in fiber, and over all a healthier sweet fix compared to candies. Because of the many health benefits of eating an apple, there can be little doubt why the phrase, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” became well-known.
However, the truth of the matter is, apples do not contain any caffeine at all. So why do we get remarkably similar effects to drinking coffee, whenever we consume apples? The primary reason is the sugar content of apples. These fruit sugars, called glucose can be naturally found in fruits. As we all know, sugar can also be a source of an energy boost. That is why kids or adults who eat a lot of sweets at one time can experience a sugar rush where in the individual feels a momentary flash of happiness and energy. However, this also triggers for the body to release a lot of insulin to regulate the excessive sugar in the blood, because can become toxic for the body. In addition, that crash after the body experiences a sugar rush can be so much worse because your body becomes more tired than before.
In addition to the fruit sugars, apples also contain some carbohydrates and essential vitamins that help energize and wake up the body. There is also that sound of a crunchy apple that gets your attention and actually jolt you awake. With all these different things put together, you get to see an idea as to why people relate the effects of eating an apple to drinking a cup of coffee.
Having said that, if you feel like the energy boost you get from apples are insufficient, but do not want to turn to just coffee for caffeine, you may also purchase caffeine powder in bulk, and you can start to add small quantities of it in whatever drink you prefer. The difference with caffeine is that you can get to enjoy a longer energizing effect without the downside presented by sugar. You can even get the best of both worlds by mixing it a small amount of caffeine powder in some apple juice. Just make sure to follow the daily recommended dosage quantities when it comes to your caffeine intake to make sure you maximize its use and effects.
