If you are a great movie buff then I suppose you must have many good reasons to go to the movies regularly. Additionally, if your preferred genre of films is period movies then I would suggest that you plan a short break in Wales, focusing on a possible Pembrokeshire Holidays package. Perhaps you had been enthralled by the opening scenes of the movie “The Lion in Winter” as Katherine Hepburn’s Eleanor of Aquitaine took a boat ride for a rendezvous with Henry II, played by veteran actor Peter O’Toole. If you enjoy great British period movies and you happen to have watched this gem of a film-making, you probably would have known that one of the locations where the movie was shot was Pembroke Castle, a well-known tourist attraction at Pembrokeshire county, Wales.

Pembroke Castle is the most famous of Welsh castles with a history dating as early as the Norman conquest in the 12th Century. Not surprisingly, most travel agencies highlight the castle as part of their promoted ‘short break in Wales’, including visiting Pembroke Castle in their Pembrokeshire Holidays tour.

People who love watching period movies are probably people who have some liking for history. It is entertainment of the highest quality when a good period movie reenacts a certain past period of say, English history. Such movies ( for which examples abound. “Elizabeth”, “Shakespeare in Love”, “Mary, Queen of Scots” are some notable period movies, just to name a few ) are characterized by elaborate costumes, spectacular battle scenes depicting attack on an ancient castle, and highly stylized speech, mannerism and court protocol, among others. And of course, if one’s interests include studying historical sites and ancient buildings of Wales, it would not be inappropriate to make a go for a short break in Wales, or plan a Pembrokeshsire Holidays tour.

Even if the movie fan’s preferred genre is not period movies, it is always an exhilarating experience watching movies like Lord of the Rings ( the latest one being shot on location in New Zealand ) and the all-time box-office winner Harry Porter series, the latest of which, the Deathly Hallows has some scenes shot on location in Pembrokeshire county. Yet another recent movie which was shot partly at Pembrokeshire is Robin Hood, played by Aussie actor Russell Crowe. There are some other, lesser known movies shot on location either at Pembroke Castle itself, or at places around Pembrokeshire county. It is therefore not off the mark to invite a movie-goer to make a short break in Wales, with Pembrokeshire holidays in mind by making Pembroke Castle and surrounding places of interest as part of the itinerary. But the bottom line is that one doesn’t need any reason to visit Wales in general, and Pembrokeshire county in particular for this jewel of a part of the United Kingdom will be able to entice all tourists and travelers, movie addicts or not.
