Many opponents of the present politicians, are, truly, as guilty, as they proclaim, their leaders are! As long as voters, either, do not exercise their right to vote, or, do so, haphazardly, and without focusing on essential factors (but, rather, based on promises, rhetoric and vitriol), they should not have the right to complain! When Americans elected a man, who claimed, he could, shoot someone on Fifth Avenue, and get away with it, they ignored the essence of this proclamation! It indicated, he believed, he was above, the law, and anyone, who was willing to take time, to fully consider, the public record, of his past, should have realized, he has proceeded, through life, apparently, believing this, and/ or, acting like he did! Our Founding Fathers, wisely, put many protections into the Constitution, to hopefully, protect the nation, against what we seem to be witnessing today. However, over 240 years ago, no one could have foreseen, the current political leaders, behaving as they do, today! While, there has always been an influence of money, on politicians (e.g. Political Action Committees, or PAC), we are currently witness, an odor of corruption (or potential corruption), like we have never before seen. With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, why this is a clear, and present danger, to our American way, of life.

1. Potential undue influences: The House of Representatives, recently, passed legislation, intended to protect, a free and open Internet. One would think, this should be, an issue, where legislators, should be emphasizing their constituents, and the common good, instead of their personal/ political agenda, and self – interest! However, the Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, has declared, he is unwilling, to permit it, to even be voted for, on the Senate floor. Is it a coincidence, at least 3 telecommunications company, have made significant political campaign contributions?

2. The President: Many believe, President Donald Trump, appears to be, behaving, as if, he believes, he is, above the law, because of the position, he holds. While his supporters might claim, they believe and accept his explanations, about withholding disclosing his tax returns, as every President since Richard Nixon, have, voluntarily do, most others, may be wondering, why is he so adamant about this, if he has nothing to hide! When the House Ways and Means Committee, recently asked for his last 6 years, returns, as they are allowed to, by law, the President, has declared, he will not permit it! Let that sink in – he declares, he won’t permit it, even though, this was not merely a request, but a properly executed document, directing the Internal Revenue Service, to do so! If this is allowed, what good is any law?

3. Balance of Powers: In the past two years, there has been, constant bickering, between the three, supposedly, co – equal branches of government. Whether it is, attempting, an end – around, to get the funding for his Wall, even though Congress denied the funding, or many other actions, this should concern anyone, who truly loves, the freedoms and liberties, the United States, has always stood for! Whether one supports Trump, or opposes many of his positions and actions, maintaining the integrity, and intent of this nation, should, and must, take priority!

Wake up, America, before you discover, a nation, which you no longer recognize! No individual is above the law, and public officials should be held, to a higher standard, because they are supposedly, serving and representing, all of us!
