My self-respect means to feel good about myself and to consider myself above everything and everybody else, although I do not neglect the needs of people around me. The same applies to most of these people

However, this might not be honored by all people around me. They might get angry, upset and frustrated. They could be disappointed.

Why?

There is one simple answer: they want to be able to dictate to me what I do because they think that I am responsible for their happiness in that moment.

If they are not concerned with my self-respect they may be with their own. If they are able to not depend on what others have to say about them, their self-respect is intact. The same may be said about the need of approval by others. If they do not need it, their sell-respect is certainly also ok. As long as they can accept other people’s self-respect theirs is fine. It is all a question of accepting one another with their characters, their feelings, their emotions, their ideas and their way of living. My self-respect must obviously also be solid to be able to respect other people just as they are. Self-respect is the respect for oneself, but it also includes that of the people around me.

Self-respect also means to see that everybody is responsible for their own actions. Nobody can be hold responsible for my actions nor can I be considered responsible for the actions of the people around me. I think that for the people around me self-respect means more or less the same as it does for me. That is, they will not take advantage of me or focus negatively on food and body image. They may have learned from me that this is a wrong perception of the person. Like I do, they think and feel before they speak They do not compromise their needs or values to meet someone else’s needs or gain the approval of those others.

I think everybody should make time and energy every single day for self-reflection and inner connection even if there are so many other things and people calling us who want our time. Most of the people around you should try to do just that. It would help them and all around them to live a better life.
