Many, who have studied the United States history, and government, are extremely concerned, because they feel, in many areas, our Constitution, and, thus, our nation is under attack! Regardless of one’s political beliefs, or whether one agrees with/ supports, the present President, or opposes him, we must understand/ realize/ recognize, the actions taken, or avoided (which should have been taken), will often have longer – reaching ramifications, into the future. It is far different, to support someone on specific positions, than to look the other way, when President Donald Trump, decides to proceed, with little to no respect, either for the norms, or, proceed, as he wishes, despite the apparent violations of either the law, or our Constitution. America’s Founding Fathers appeared to recognize the need, for checks – and – balances, and ensure, no one individual, had unilateral power, and/ or control. Because of that, they created, what is referred to, as, the Balance of Powers, with co – equal branches of government. They specifically provided specific limits on the Executive Branch, with, for example, the so – called, Power of the Purse Strings, in the hands of the Congress. In addition, our Courts were supposed to interpret, and determine disputes, in accordance with the basic principles of this nation, including, liberty and justice for all, and the rights guaranteed, by the Bill of Rights. With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, why we must demand, we never permit, any one individual, to behave, as if, he is above the law!

1. The Wall: No discussion of the Balance of Powers, would be complete, without beginning, with President Trump’s demand for his southern wall. There are several issues involved, including costs/ expenses, effectiveness, and its symbolism, but the rule of law, proclaimed, Congress had the power to approve or disapprove the expenditures, and, refused to grant, anywhere near, what this President demanded. He, then, declared a National Emergency, which many Constitutional experts, declare is unconstitutional, because there has been no proof of a real emergency. Most, rather consider this, an end – around, where Trump is trying, to take funds, granted elsewhere, and use them, on his symbolic wall! There are presently, over 20 law suits, filed, and, hopefully, our Courts will determine, the rule of law!

2. Russian Investigation/ Mueller: The administration of Donald Trump, has existed under, somewhat of a cloud, since its onset, because, he won the Electoral vote, while losing the popular vote. Then, there were many reports of foreign interference, in that election, including hacking, etc. While the President has referred to the Mueller investigation, as a Witch Hunt, it has, to date, indicted over 30 people, and clearly, indicated, the Russians interfered, with the election. While, we don’t know, today, nor may we, in the near future, find out, what was discovered, in – full, the appearance of how the Attorney General, is handling its release, to – date, is suspicious.

3. Trump’s Tax Returns: Because he refused to release his tax returns, as all Presidents, since Nixon, have, and his unusual behavior, many feel, it is important, for Congress, to look, at this President’s tax returns, while Mr. Trump, continues fighting and resisting. Congress will probably subpoena them, and, in all probability, the issue, will end up, with the Courts. Since there are laws, stating specific Congressional committees, have the right, to view these, it will be interesting to see what occurs, and the precedent, it sets.
